IPAC for Surgical Centres

In 2010 the Journal of the American Medical Association published an article about the status of infection prevention and control programs in Ambulatory Surgical Centres in the United States.  The survey, which evaluated 68 centres across three states, showed that 68% of centres had at least one lapse in infection control.  Common lapses included using single-dose medication vials for more than one patient, failing to adhere to equipment reprocessing standards, and lapses in the handling of blood glucose monitoring equipment.
